Internal Family Systems Coaching Frequently-Asked Questions

What’s Internal Family Systems, or IFS?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a philosophy that acknowledges the “multiplicity of the mind,” or the idea that we are not one mind with thoughts and feelings running through it, but instead a core, “self” with many “parts.” Read more.

What are the benefits of engaging in life coaching?

Life coaching offers individuals the opportunity to get support and guidance to find improved quality of life through discussion, introspection, and clear focus on achievement of life goals. You may have been seeking improvements in self-esteem, wanting a more positive outlook on life, or wishing you could change certain behaviors and finding the progress slow or difficult. Partnering with a life coach will give you an outside perspective, accountability, and new ways to address life’s stressors. It can take courage to ask for outside help, but the practice of reaching out for support and receiving it brings its own rewards that tend to outweigh the initial discomfort of trying something new.

What’s the difference between coaching and therapy?

In my mind, therapy addresses mental health issues such as anxiety and depression with the goal of alleviation of symptoms or getting you to “baseline”. Once you’ve achieved baseline, life coaching takes it a step further by aiming for joy, fulfillment, and collaborative support in completion of life goals.

How long are sessions?

Sessions are typically 60 minutes, however at times they may be extended to 90 minutes should you need more time to process or complete an unburdening.

How often are sessions?

Initially, weekly sessions are recommended for clients new to IFS or wanting to more swiftly create change. Biweekly sessions (2/month) or monthly are also offered based on client needs.

How do I begin the process of meeting with you?

A good start would be to schedule a “vibe check” or a free, 15-minute video chat so you can ask any questions you may have and I can tell you more about what I offer. From there, if we feel it’s a good fit, we’ll schedule your first session. For more about what sessions look like, see what you can expect.

How much do sessions cost?

Vibe checks are free of charge. Sessions scheduled for 60 minutes are $175, and those scheduled for 90 minutes are $260. Life coaching is not covered by insurance.

Do you offer in-person sessions?

Currently all sessions are offered online, however if you become a client, in person sessions can be accommodated should both parties feel it is appropriate.
